Drake White on St. Jude: ‘You Really Feel Like They Have a Goal’

Country music has a long history of supporting Memphis, Tenn.'s St. Jude Children's Research Hospital -- including Darius Rucker. The singer will host his seventh annual Darius Rucker & Friends benefit concert on June 6, with all proceeds benefiting St. Jude; this year, the event will feature performances by Rucker, Drake White, Terri Clark, Hunter Hayes, Scotty McCreery and Charley Pride (and likely some other special guests). Benefit concert participant White says that there's no other charity he would rather support.

"Everybody works together for one common goal, and they share everything. It's not corporately driven," White recently told The Boot and other reporters of St. Jude. "You get the sense that a lot of this country is all business-driven, and the healthcare business is such a huge business. [But] here, you really feel like they have a goal, and their goal is to make children and people live healthy lives, and live whole, so it’s pretty awesome.

"You can feel that energy and feel how positive everything is," he adds. "It’s really inspiring and really puts everything in perspective how life is."

Another up-and-coming country artist, Jordan Rager, visited St. Jude for the first time earlier this year and says that, after learning more about the work they do, he will remain a supporter of the hospital.

"You walk through these halls, and it’s incredibly positive: The kids running around, playing with the toys and their friends -- it’s just like regular kids, and that was really really cool for me to see," he shares. "It kind of put a lot of things in perspective for me. We all have our days when we complain about something that probably seems like a big deal at the time, and then you come here and see what these kids and their families go through. It’s sobering for sure; it will make you appreciate everything you have."

"Daddy's Money" singer Brooke Eden also vowed to continue to support St. Jude, and urged her fans to do the same.

"They’d rather have a million people donate $1 than one person donate $1 million," she reflects. "Don’t ever think an amount is too small."

Rucker's annual Darius Rucker & Friends event also includes a golf tournament and silent auction. Tickets for the benefit show are on sale now through Ticketmaster.
