Dierks Bentley Reveals ‘The Mountain’ Details, Featuring Brothers Osborne Collaboration
Dierks Bentley will release his ninth studio album, The Mountain, on June 8. The 13-track project includes collaborations with Brothers Osborne, Sam Bush, Brandi Carlile, Jerry Douglas and Tim O'Brien.
Bentley traveled to Colorado to write and record the project — he's had the idea to record an album that ties into where he's from for years, but was never quite sure how to accomplish it. After a visit to Wyoming (and performing at Telluride Bluegrass Festival), the album slowly began to take shape.
“There’s an intangible magic to that location,” Bentley tells Entertainment Weekly of his time in Colorado. “I thought, ‘Man, I wish I could capture this feeling.’” Songs on The Mountain will reflect the picturesque landscape where the album came together, but the tracks will also share some of the wisdom Bentley has gained in his 40s.
“I’m sure I’ll say the same thing in my 50s, but the wisdom that’s come in my 40s has been insane. I look back on myself and I have a lot of compassion for that guy,” he says, speaking of a pre-fame version of himself. “He’s trying to make it and he’s going through the machine of Nashville and just the hair and the alcohol … it’s such a tough business. One thing that never suffered was the work. I’ve always been afraid to not put the work in. I was too nervous that things wouldn’t work out.”
These reflections can be found in the music, specifically “Travelin’ Light,” “Stranger to Myself” and his current single, “Woman, Amen.” Fans can pre-order The Mountain beginning on Friday (April 13).
