According to the website, "music can influence emotions, energy levels, and even decision-making" and all that can flow over into people's driving.
Here's how they deemed if a song was too distracting for drivers:
- Tempo - If a song has a fast tempo with beats exceeding 120 beats per minute, it can unconsciously cause drivers to drive fast and make impulsive decisions.
- Energy Levels - High-energy songs typically have "heavy beats, complex rhythms, and intense dynamics" that can overstimulate drivers and take a driver's focus away from the road.
- Speechiness - Most songs tell a story, and if the words of a song are particularly intriguing, it can take drivers out of the moment.
- Genre - Some genres produce more energy then others, therefore genres like EDM and hard could induce risky driving behavior.
