Almost everyone around the country does some kind of traveling around the holidays, and often times, most Oklahomans are making an almost three hour trip just across the state. And nothing passes the time while driving than by listening to music! But if you're planning on listening to any Christmas music during your holiday travels, then you will want to avoid some of the more distracting songs.

The website 844seemike.com put together a list of the 20 most distracting songs to drive to, and included a separate list of the most distracting Christmas songs to drive through. According to the website, "music can influence emotions, energy levels, and even decision-making" and all that can flow over into people's driving.

Here's how they deemed if a song was too distracting for drivers:

  • Tempo - If a song has a fast tempo with beats exceeding 120 beats per minute, it can unconsciously cause drivers to drive fast and make impulsive decisions.
  • Energy Levels - High-energy songs typically have "heavy beats, complex rhythms, and intense dynamics" that can overstimulate drivers and take a driver's focus away from the road.
  • Speechiness - Most songs tell a story, and if the words of a song are particularly intriguing, it can take drivers out of the moment.
  • Genre - Some genres produce more energy then others, therefore genres like EDM and hard could induce risky driving behavior.

The Top 20 Most Distracting Christmas Songs to Drive To

If you're getting ready to queue up your holiday road trip playlist, you may want to consider leaving the following holiday classics off the list. Instead, consider those holiday classics that have a slower tempo. They will still fill you with holiday cheer and keep you safe!
