Well, Happy Birthday to Lawton Oklahoma!  You don't look a day over 100!  But truth be told, Lawton, you are looking better all the time!  New buildings like the new Public Safety Building, and road repairs underway, you're looking way younger than 120 years old!

Lawton will celebrate it's 120th Birthday next month, and as usual, it's an opportunity for the public to celebrate as well.  The big birthday celebration and reception is set for August 5, 2021 at 5:30 pm at Lawton's City Hall.  That they are celebrating there is a history lesson in itself.  The City Hall Building is a part of Lawton's history, as it formerly housed Central Junior High School, and Lawton High School.  It was renovated into office space to preserve it for generations of future Lawtonians to enjoy!

"This longtime community celebration is a wonderful opportunity for neighbors, friends and family to come together and celebrate our rich history here in Lawton Fort Sill," said Jason Poudrier, Lawton Arts & Humanities Administrator.

The Birthday Celebration will feature remarks for Lawton's Mayor Stan Booker with proclamations for several groups that have history nearly as long as Lawton has been around, including the Lawton Rangers, Pioneer Women's Club, Buffalo Soldiers and Outstanding Citizen Sonya Haden. The late C.H. Brazzel, who dedicated his career to protecting and serving the Lawton community at the Lawton Police Department, will be honored with the "Lawton Award of Excellence."

"The event is free and open to all; light refreshments will be served. For more information, visit lawtonok.gov or call 580.581.3470.
