Florida Georgia Line Say Collaboration With the Chainsmokers Is ‘Meant to Be’
Florida Georgia Line have been making some big waves in the music world with their musical partnerships outside of the country genre, and they'll continue the trend with a new collaboration with popular EDM duo the Chainsmokers that was kind of inevitable.
The opportunity began when FGL's Brian Kelley revealed in an interview that it would be "cool" to collaborate with the "Closer" hitmakers. "And in my head I literally was thinking, ‘Wow, that’s something we’ve never talked about, but that would be really cool,’" Tyler Hubbard says, recalling his reaction. "And the next thing you know, a week and a half later we’re getting a phone call. So it’s just funny how we really do feel like it’s kind of a God thing and it was definitely meant to be."
The "May We All" singers also offer some insight into the collaboration, saying the song is a "bit dark," but also hopeful. "It’s a positive song, but it’s emotional at the same time and I think it really sounds like if FGL and Chainsmokers did a collaboration that’s what you would get," Kelley describes.
"You also can tell that we pushed ourselves a lot on this record, like it’s not the typical FGL sound, which we’re really excited about actually," Hubbard adds. "So it was really fun learning and growing and pushing ourselves both vocally and with different parts and harmonies that we’ve never sang before. So it’s gonna sound cool.”
Florida Georgia Line's collaboration with the Chainsmokers follows their highly-anticipated release with the Backstreet Boys, "God, Your Mama and Me." The '90s pop group will join the country superstars for select dates on their 2017 Smooth Tour, as will Nelly, whom the country duo collaborated with on a remix of their hit single "Cruise." Florida Georgia Line tickets are certain to be among the most popular of 2017.
