Garth Brooks Presented With Platinum Album for ‘Man Against Machine’
Garth Brooks got some great news during a history-making appearance on the 'Today' show on Thursday (Jan. 8).
The country icon appeared during all four hours of the morning news and entertainment show, marking a first in the history of the program. Brooks -- who is the best-selling artist in country music history -- was awarded a Platinum disc for his latest album, 'Man Against Machine,' his first full-length studio album after a 13-year hiatus.
The album -- which is available at retail in CD form, but is available in digital form exclusively at Brooks' newly-launched service, Ghost Tunes -- has sold a million copies since its release in November.
Brooks performed the album's second single, 'Mom,' on the show, appeared in interview segments, took questions from viewers and even went head-to-head with Hoda Kotb in a country music trivia challenge, which he lost. He finished up the appearance by leading the staff in a singalong of his signature hit, 'Friends in Low Places.'
Brooks will resume his enormous comeback world tour in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla. on Friday night (Jan. 9), kicking off a string of seven shows at the BOK Arena.
