There are an abundance of Chili cookers in Geronimo, Oklahoma!  I know, because for the 3rd time, I was asked to help judge the best of the best chili around.

Forced to cancel this event last year due to COVID, organizer Donna Evans was thrilled with the participation in this 6th Annual event. proceeds from this event are used to help with expenses for Geronimo's Annual Birthday Celebration each September.  And added as an extra event, the newly founded Geronimo 4H Club included a dessert auction following the chili feed with donations for the desserts going back to the club to help support the clubs' projects for the year.

Geronimo Chili Cook-off

Fifteen chili cookers competed for the best Chili in Geronimo, and I have to tell you, it is NOT easy tasting and judging so many different chili's.  Beans? No Beans?  How much tomato?  What kinds of meats do you use in your Chili?  There are no real rules when it comes to personal tastes, and Geronimo has some of the finest!

Meet the Judges!  Well, I've already told you that I have been asked for the 3rd yeat to serve on the judges panel for this cookoff, normally held at the Geronimo Fire Department.  With the cold weather expected, this year it was moved to the Community Center/Senior Center, and nearly was too big for this location!

State Representative Trey Caldwell, James Kimbro, and I had the awesome challenge to crown the best chili.  And as I stated earlier,  it's not so easy to taste the difference in 15 different chilis.  But we soldiered through.  Then, a tiebreaker, so we had to decide the third place chili with another taste of the two chilis that tied.

Winners are as follows:

1st place with their Poomba Chile: Jodi Fields

2nd Place: Elizabeth Renschen

3rd Place: Timothy McLennan

Best Decoration: Fiesta Chili by the Wyatt's

And Peoples Choice Chili: Heith Renschen
