Hunter Hayes Gets What He ‘Wanted’ With First No. 1 Single
There is something oh so sweet about experiencing the very first No. 1 single of your career as an artist. This week, the honor goes to Hunter Hayes, who tops the charts with only his second single, 'Wanted.'
Hayes co-wrote the tune, along with Troy Verges, so he is basking in the double joy of a chart-topping hit as both a writer and the recording artist. 'Wanted' is a song that was written from the heart of the 21-year-old star, who was inspired by a girl in his life.
"Seriously it's hard for me to believe I'm here talking about my first number one record," Hayes says. "“I am unbelievably grateful for the support from country radio, my entire team working behind the scenes and all the incredible fans, all of whom helped me pick this song for a single and supported it all the way to where it is! Thank you! Thank you so much!"”
Hayes' Warner Bros. Records labelmate Blake Shelton cheered on the newcomer Sunday afternoon when news broke of the week's new No. 1 song. "Congratulations to Hunter Hayes on his #1 song "Wanted"!!!!" Shelton tweeted. "Warner Brothers promotion is whipping some serious a--!!!!"
'Wanted' is the second offering from Hayes' self-titled debut album that hit stores last fall. It recently earned platinum certification for digital downloads exceeding one million copies sold. The album's lead single, 'Storm Warning,' was the singer's first Top 15 hit earlier this year, and now the tune is nearing gold certification.
All this exciting news is just the icing on the cake for Hayes as his career continues to blow up. Just last week, he kicked off the year's most talked about tour -- the Blown Away Tour -- alongside headliner, Carrie Underwood.
