Finally, Labor Day weekend is almost here! I don't know about you, but I am so ready for the break - in heat and in life.

Most people might be headed to the lake or staying home, but there are too many cool things happening around southwest Oklahoma to miss out on.

Take a look at what you should expect between Friday, August 28 and Sunday, August 31. Since Labor Day is always the first Monday in September, so it specifically happens to fall on Monday, September 1, 2025.

What does the weather look like for Labor Day weekend?

We keep hearing from several meteorologists in Oklahoma that we're in for cooler temperatures and even some moisture. One of our favorites, David Payne, said that it's "gonna get cooler," sharing a forecast of 80 degree temps for next weekend.

He also mentioned a "statewide, all 77 county event" for rainfall. Some areas could see up to 2 to 3 inches of rain while others could hardly see an inch. But, the good news is - we'll all get something!

Even our local meteorologist, Austin Bowling, is calling for some increased rain chances for next week. So if you plan on heading out for Labor Day weekend, prep to get a little wet. And there are plenty of ways to get out and actually enjoy the cooler temperatures.

Music festivals, small town free fairs and more happening for Labor Day Weekend.

Every year, Medicine Park hosts their Mayor's Blues Ball on Labor Day weekend. It also happens to be the time of year they generally stop charging swimmers in Bath Lake.

Now with the new bathrooms almost complete, they should be more than ready for a big crowd. For details on the event and schedule of artists, click here.

Another major event that never changes in southwest Oklahoma is the Fletcher Free Fair, which happens every Labor Day weekend. Its a small town festival with games, vendors, livestock shows and more.
