Beware, It’s Illegal To Visit These 5 Places In Texas
Most will agree that Texas is a big place, full of exciting places to visit. There's a little bit of everything from bustling cities like Dallas and Austin to the peaceful settings of Big Bend National Park. Texas also has places that are a no-go to visit. And by no-go, I mean illegal.
An article from Click2Houston started the ball rolling with places nationwide where you're not allowed to trespass. But I wanted to narrow the scope to only Texas. These five places are off-limits to the general public in the Lone Star State.
BEWARE: IT'S ILLEGAL TO VISIT THESE 5 PLACES IN TEXAS?
Pantex Plant
First up is the Pantex Plant, located near Amarillo. This facility assembles and disassembles nuclear weapons for the U.S. Department of Energy. As you might imagine, security is tight, and unauthorized access could quickly land you in criminal trouble.
Fort Cavazos
Next is the Fort Cavazos military base. Installments like these (including Dyess Air Force Base) are home to thousands of soldiers and military personnel. These areas are strictly for authorized individuals. Trespassing here is a major no-no.
Houston Space Center
Third on the list is the Houston Space Center's restricted areas. While the visitor center is open to the public, some off-limit zones contain sensitive information and equipment critical for space missions. Unauthorized entry could find you in hot water.
Private Ranches
If there's one thing Texas has plenty of, it's ranches. Many property owners don't take kindly to trespassers. Stepping foot on private property without permission can result in trespassing charges, and some landowners are known to protect their acreage aggressively.
Toyah High School
This old school building in the ghost town of Toyah is a magnet for photographers and explorers. But beware, the structure is unsafe, and entering it without authorization is illegal.
If you're like me, you like to take the path less traveled and explore new places. But don't forget that some are off-limits for a reason. It could be for your safety or the protection of the property. Use caution and always make sure you're aware. That's the safe route to take.
