Are you looking for the perfect destination for a low-key weekend getaway? If so, this one is for you.

As much as I love to go and spend the weekend in some of our biggest cities here in Texas, I’m a big fan of small-town charm. Sure, you have more entertainment and food options in the big city, but there are plenty of small towns that have a lot to offer.

That’s why my wife and I love The Daytripper. The host, Chet Garner, will travel across Texas, highlighting the food, culture, and history of various Texas towns. Thanks to the show, we’re constantly adding spots to our road trip bucket list.

Speaking of that bucket list, I came across a list of 12 food towns that deserve a weekend trip all by themselves from the folks at Cheapism. I figured there would be at least one Texas town on the list and sure enough, I was right. In fact, two Texas destinations made the list.

Lexington

If you’re looking to try some of the best barbecue the Lone Star State has to offer, you’ll want to make the trip to this little Central Texas town. Lexington’s most popular attraction, Snow’s BBQ, was recently named the state’s best, so you pretty much have to try it, right?

Fredericksburg

Located in the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg is a popular destination for wine lovers, with more than 75 wineries located in Fredericksburg’s Gillespie County. And if you’re a fan of German food, Otto’s German Bistro is known for its unique blend of Hill Country ingredients and European influences.

Conclusion

It’s always good to see Texas towns getting a little national love. And while both Lexington and Fredericksburg are praiseworthy, you and I both know this great state of ours has so much more to offer. So, get out there and start exploring. There’s no time like the present to find a new favorite spot.
