
Texas Gas Prices Hit New 2026 Highs
It's official, Texas is seeing gas prices over $4 per gallon in some cities. Unfortunately, the climb doesn't seem to be slowing down. We have now officially broken the threshold, and it's something drivers haven't experienced in four years. Gas prices are just one of the rising costs that are hitting Texans today.
Texas Gas Prices Are Climbing Again
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Texas is $3.87, according to AAA Texas. The national average jumped 9 cents to $4.17 per gallon. Amarillo has lost its spot for cheapest gas. Lubbock now has the cheapest gas.
Here’s What Drivers Are Paying Across Texas
- Amarillo: $3.41 from $3.27 (up 14 cents)
- Lubbock: $3.31 from $3.30 (up 1 cent, lowest in Texas)
- Midland: $3.88 from $3.88 (no change)
- Tyler: $3.77 from $3.69 (up 8 cents)
- El Paso: $4.01 from $3.91 (up 10 cents, now over $4)

Which Texas Cities Are Over $4?
El Paso crossed the $4 mark this week, but it's still not the most expensive city in Texas. San Angelo holds that honor. Residents are paying $4.12 per gallon.
Why Gas Prices Are Rising Right Now
The ceasefire cooled the cost of crude oil, bringing it under $100, but the market is volatile, so the prices have not leveled off.
Gas prices in Texas remain elevated compared to what drivers have grown used to in recent months, and shifts in crude oil prices continue to influence what we’re seeing at the pump, said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
