Jamie Lynn Spears has remained largely out of the limelight recently, but the country singer-songwriter-slash-actress will be the star of an upcoming TLC special, Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out. The one-hour episode will take viewers into Spears' everyday life.

Now 25, Spears, largely stepped away from the limelight when she became pregnant with her daughter, Maddie, at the age of 16. At the time, she was the star of a Nickelodeon TV show called Zoey 101.

"I just wanted to get away from it as much as I could, to just go away and be a mom and figure out what I wanted, and to earn a sense of respect back for myself. Move to a town in the middle of nowhere and just raise my child," Spears tells Glamour. "All I could be was a good mother. If anybody had anything to say after that, there was nothing I could do."

However, Spears has, in recent years, been pursuing a career in country music: In 2014, she released an EPThe Journey, but has kept a relatively low profile in the past year, so the TLC special shows what's been going on behind the scenes as she balances family life and her music career. In the teaser, viewers will get a look back at the criticism she received following the news of her pregnancy; they will also see Spears share her thoughts on the labels she's been given over the years.

"I wanna do something that I'm gonna be proud of," she says. "I'm not just a child star. I'm not just someone's sister. And I'm not just a teen mom."

The special will combine Spears' love for her daughter, support of her family, passion for music and strong work ethic into one hour that fans won't want to miss.

"This is my story like you've never heard before," Spears says.
