Jana Kramer Says ‘Hot Nanny’ Comments ‘Were Taken Severely Out of Context’
Jana Kramer is under fire after her recent comments about not hiring a "hot" nanny for her children, including backlash from a former Bachelor contest. The country singer and actress, in response, posted a lengthy apology note on Instagram.
The digital scuffle began in mid-April, when on her Whine Down With Jana Kramer podcast the singer suggested that nannies, in their profiles for prospective families, "should dress for the part."
"This one photo was like, ‘Hi, I’m 22 years old and I have perky boobs,'" Kramer remarked. "Like, don’t post the perky boob photo. You’re not gonna be hired. I’m not hiring you.” She added that it's "not that I don't trust my husband," but cites several high-profile celebrity couples in which the man is rumored to have had an affair with the nanny.
"I just think it's not smart," she states. "You look at some of these nannies, and I'm like, 'Well, you kind of asked for it. She's kind of hot.' You know what I mean? You're in close quarters ... you're playing with fire."
Jimmie Allen's "Make Me Want To" Live Version Is Addicting
In response to Kramer's comments, former Bachelor contestant Ashley Spivey, who works as a nanny, called out Kramer on Instagram, saying her words were "insulting."
"After a long day of nannying I can assure that the last thing we want to do is seduce a husband," Spivey writes. "Also, sounds like your husband sucks.”
People obtained screenshots of Kramer and Spivey's private Instagram conversation, which Spivey later made public. “It actually was taken out of context but u don’t need to be rude and say insulting things back when I wasn’t calling anyone out. All I said was it’s dangerous to hire a playboy type nanny," Kramer tells Spivey, who responds: "You are insulting an entire profession of hardworking women that are taking care of your kids. And it wasn’t taken out of context. You asked for nanny horror stories to back it up."
"Playboy nannies are not a thing and honestly f--k Sex and the City for even making this a stereotype that is still propagated to this day. Nannies have boobs and bodies and we like sex too but we also love taking care of kids and that’s all that should be important," Spivey says in a follow-up post. "To see women encouraging other women to share horror stories about their whorish nannies is DISGUSTING.”
In an apology post on Instagram, Kramer repeats that "a few of the things I said were taken severely out of context," and clarifies her feelings that "[n]o one ever deserves to be sexually assaulted in the workplace based on what they wear or how they look. Period."
"On my podcast I like to stir things up, start conversations BUT never to offend others. So for the nannies I have offended I’m sorry," Kramer continues. "The funny thing is all my past nannies have been beautiful and I never cared because they LOVED my children and that’s what it’s about."
Kramer and her husband, former professional football player Michael Cuassin, married in 2015 and welcomed their first child, daughter Jolie Rae Caussin, in January of 2016. They separated later that year after Caussin's infidelity — he went through treatment for sex addiction _ but worked through their problems and renewed their vows in December of 2017.
"At the end of the day people will cheat no matter what and it doesn’t matter what someone looks like. Truth is it’s about BOUNDARIES ... It’s not about how hot the nanny is, or how big of boobs ur nanny has or what she is wearing... it’s about BOUNDARIES and TRUST," Kramer adds on Instagram. "It truly is about having healthy boundaries with your spouse."
Kramer and Caussin welcomed their second child, a son named Jace Joseph Caussin, in November of 2018.
