Jonah Hill Doubts ‘Jump Street’ and ‘Men In Black’ Crossover Will Happen

Jenko and Schmidt may not battle aliens after all.

The 23 Jump Street and Men in Black crossover that we’ve been talking about since 2014 may not be happening anymore. The crossover project was first revealed in the Sony email hacks, which just seemed like wishful thinking. But then the project reportedly found a director in Alice Through the Looking Glass‘ James Bobin and Sony officially confirmed the movie, titled MIB 23, with a logo back in April. But according to Jonah Hill, the chance of Jenko and Schmit sporting black suits and plasma guns isn’t looking likely.

According to the Toronto Sun, Hill said, “I doubt that movie will get made.” He added that while the studio is working on making deals, the prospect of satirizing another franchise has become complicated:

They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff. The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.

Those are some legitimate concerns. The end credits of 22 Jump Street imagined a series of ridiculous sequels for the franchise, finding Hill’s Schmidt and Channing Tatum‘s Jenko in parodies of various stories like going to cooking school, traveling abroad, going to art school, dance academy, and so on. But if 23 Jump Street takes on Men in Black, the movie could run the risk of turning into its own joke, as Hill says.

But Hill added he still hopes the crossover works out. It sounds like negotiations are still happening, and if Sony went as far as revealing an official logo for MIB 23, I doubt the idea is already shelved for good. Worst case, if a Men in Black crossover doesn’t work out they still have those 25 other ideas from the end credits. The possibilities are endless!
