Just Jeri: Just Happy to Be in the Room
Just Happy to be in the Room. It's my new mantra. I used it first this weekend as James and I traveled to Norman to watch the Oklahoma Sooners take on Kansas.
Being a Sooner fan the last few weeks hasn't been easy. We are not used to losing. Fans bashed new head coach Brent Venables like he was personally responsible for the losing streak. I guess they forgot how many players we lost during the Lincoln Riley exit.
My brother has season tickets for OU. When he called me a few weeks ago to see if I wanted his tickets for this game, I was all in. We were still winning. The closer we got to game day, there was a slight sense of dread. Now, when I say I'm a fan, I mean it. Win or lose, I still love some Sooner Football. (Baseball and Softball too!)
I even wore my Sooner colors when James and I went to Branson a few weeks ago. I'm still proud to sport Crimson and Cream. So when I said I was just happy to be in the room, I meant it. Win or Lose, being in a place with that much spirit, and fun was such an awesome experience, with a near-capacity crowd.
My mantra of late has been to just enjoy life and whatever life throws at me. Being present, and being happy about it. Thus, Just Happy to be in the Room was a perfect description of being at the game.
And the Sooners Won! Not a perfect win, but not a sloppy one either. There were some miscues and some questionable calls, but still a solid win. And we were there. Present. And I loved it!
