Kacey Musgraves brought a mellow singer-songwriter vibe to the 2018 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 14), taking the stage at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to perform "Slow Burn."

Wearing a simple, but elegant red dress and playing an acoustic guitar, Musgraves distinguished herself with one of the most serious and truly musical performances of the night, eschewing flash for substance as she delivered the easygoing mid-tempo song.

"I'm alright with a slow burn / Taking my time, let the world turn / I'm gonna do it my way, it'll be alright / If we burn it down and it takes all night / It's a slow burn," she sang in the chorus, accompanied by a simple, lilting arrangement from her musicians that lifted her up without drawing attention away from her pitch-perfect performance.

"Slow Burn" appears on Musgraves' current album, Golden Hour, much of which was inspired by her marriage to Ruston Kelly. Musgraves' third major label album took home Album of the Year honors at the 2018 CMA Awards shortly before she took the stage Wednesday night.

Musgraves' big night at the CMAs fell on a particularly auspicious anniversary in her Nashville journey.

"This is really crazy timing," she said in her acceptance speech. "It sounds like a lie, but 10 years ago I moved to Nashville. I'm so proud of it."
