Lawton Votes August 25 With Four City Council Seats On The Ballot

Lawton residents will go to the polls on Tuesday, August 25, to vote on city council members for four wards, including Wards 1, 2, 6 and 7. Other items on the ballot include state and congressional primary runoffs and two state questions.

Polls across Lawton will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, and sample ballots are currently available on the Oklahoma Voter Portal. Lawton residents in Wards 1, 2, 6 and 7 will have the opportunity to vote on a new council member to serve a three year term, beginning in 2027.

Wards 1, 2, 6 and 7 will be voted on for Lawton City Council on August 25.

The wards that will be voting for city council on August 25 are Wards 1, 2, 6 and 7. City council elections are nonpartisan, therefore every registered voter in each ward will have the opportunity to vote on their councilmember. If needed, a runoff election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Wards 1 and 6 will have two candidates to vote between. Ward 2 will have three candidates to consider. Ward 7 will have six candidates to decide between, including incumbent Sherene L. Williams. Other incumbents running include Lane Hooton for Ward 1 and Taron Epps Sr. for Ward 2.

Below are the candidates that will be on the August 25 ballot for each ward.

• Christal Thompkins

Ward 8 Councilmember Randy Warren will term out at the end of the year. Malden D. Smith was the only person who filed for the Ward 8 seat, therefore Smith will be elected to serve a three year term starting in 2027.

Early voting will begin on Thursday, August 20, at the Comanche County Courthouse.

Along with Election Day on Tuesday, August 25, Lawton voters also have the option to vote during Early Voting, which will take place August 20-22. Early Voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, and Friday, August 21, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22. All Early Voting will take place at the Comanche County Courthouse, located at 315 SW 5th St in downtown Lawton.
