Lawton Police Dept. ‘Citizens Police Academy’ Returns in 2022
It's back! LPD's (Lawton Police Department's) CPA (Citizens' Police Academy) returns in 2022 on Thursday, January 6th (01-06-22). Space is limited so if you're interested you'll need to get signed up ASAP. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older and lives in the Lawton, Fort Sill community is welcome to be a part of CPA.
So exactly what is the Citizens Police Academy? It's a FREE 12-week course that gives Lawton citizens the opportunity to get to know officers and learn all about the various operations and departments of LPD. It's a great program, I was in Class #03 years ago and had a blast. Class #23 is coming up in January of next year.
You'll learn a lot and have a great time. It's very hands-on and you get to see and meet all the different departments from patrol, K-9 Unit, detective, CSI, narcotics, SWAT, and more. When I went through CPA we got to do ride alongs, tour the police department and dispatch, go to the gun range, watch several demonstrations, and even got to experience a mock crime scene and see how the detectives solve crimes.
It's a really cool experience, so if you have the opportunity you should definitely go. Plus, you'll meet a lot of people and make a ton of new friends. So how do you sign up for CPA? Visit www.lawtonok.gov/events to sign up digitally or to print an application. You can also pick up an application at the Lawton Public Safety building located at 100 S.W. Railroad Street. Or at the Great Plains Technology Center (Building 900).
If you have any questions you can contact Sgt. Matt Dimmitt at (580)-351-7081 or Sgt. Christopher blessing at (580-512-3169. Again space is limited so if you're interested you'll want to get signed up ASAP.
Classes start (01-06-22).
