Seahawks, Eagles & Lions Win Big On Thanksgiving
Seattle, Philadelphia and Detroit each dominated their respective divisional opponents on Thanksgiving Day to notch important wins.
Seattle 19, San Francisco 3
Richard Sherman intercepted Colin Kaepernick twice, and the Seattle Seahawks overpowered the 49ers, 19-3, in San Francisco on Thanksgiving night. Seattle (8-4) took over sole possession of second place in the NFC West with the win.
Sherman’s first-quarter interception of Kaepernick helped set up the game’s only touchdown: Russell Wilson’s 13-yard pass to Robert Turbin with just 1:29 remaining in the quarter.
The Seahawks' top-ranked defense stifled the 49ers throughout the contest, sacking Kaepernick four times and holding him to 121 passing yards. San Francisco (7-5) managed just 164 total yards of offense on the game.
Seattle's Marshawn Lynch carried 20 times for 104 yards. Wilson finished with 236 passing yards and the TD.
Philadelphia 33, Dallas 10
LeSean McCoy ran for 159 yards and a touchdown, and the Philadelphia Eagles routed the Cowboys, 33-10, in Dallas on Thanksgiving evening. It was a dominant performance by Philadelphia (9-3), which took sole possession of first place in the NFC East as a result of the victory.
The Eagles scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and amassed a 23-7 halftime lead. Not much changed after the intermission, as Philadelphia wore out Dallas (8-4) on the way to a convincing win.
The Eagles defense held Cowboys’ running back DeMarco Murray, the NFL’s leading rusher, to 73 yards on 20 carries. They also sacked quarterback Tony Romo four times during the game. Romo completed 18 of his 29 passes for 199 yards and two interceptions.
Mark Sanchez threw for 217 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for another score for Philadelphia. Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin caught eight passes for 108 yards.
Detroit 34, Chicago 17
Calvin Johnson caught 11 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and the Lions surged past the Chicago Bears, 34-17, in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. The Lions (8-4) scored 21 points in the second quarter and were never threatened by the Bears in the second half.
Chicago (5-7) had jumped out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead when Detroit began its rally. Joique Bell added two rushing touchdowns for the Lions. Detroit QB Matthew Stafford completed 34 of 45 passes for 390 yards and two scores.
Alshon Jeffery caught nine passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns for the Bears. Chicago’s defense has allowed more than 30 points in five of the team’s seven losses this season.
