Magic Mike‘ doesn’t even hit theaters until Friday but already there’s plans to bring Channing Tatum and his harem of male strippers to Broadway with an original musical based on the film.

Last night, ‘Magic Mike’ had its big Hollywood premiere and USA Today caught up with writer Reid Carolin (who also produced the film with Tatum). Carolin said of their big plans to adapt ‘Magic Mike’ to another format:

We are working on it as a Broadway show, which would be a different story. Rore of a romp, more of a fun night out at a club with a story. I’m almost more excited about that than the movie because I think it’s the perfect thing for women to go see on Broadway, to be participants in the show.

Warner Bros. just had a flop trying to adapt a Broadway musical to a movie with ‘Rock of Ages’ may wind up having success in the reverse order with a ‘Magic Mike’ musical. Say what you will bout ‘Magic Mike’ it’s a concept that lends itself well to musical theater.

How far along Carolin and Tatum are in their planning remains to be seen but it’s something that could have a solid run on Broadway (assuming the film isn’t a minor disaster in theaters).

What do you think? Would you be too embarrassed to ask for tickets to the ‘Magic Mike’ musical at the TKTS booth?
