Maren Morris Has Found a ‘Kindred Spirit’ in Miranda Lambert
Maren Morris has found a tourmate, collaborator, sounding board and good friend in fellow Texan country superstar Miranda Lambert. The "Girl" singer tells country radio DJ Bobby Bones that she considers her fellow Texan a "kindred spirit."
"We've gotten into philosophical conversations about all of this — just, the industry," Morris shares, noting that it was Lambert who told her something that Morris recently posted on social media: “Don’t get distracted by the chart. Are they singing your words louder than you? Then it’s a hit.”
Morris' song "Girl" — the title track of and first single from her sophomore album, released earlier this year — is aiming for No. 1 on the country charts. If all goes according to plan, the song will be in the top spot during the week of Aug. 3, but by Lambert's criteria, the song is already a massive hit.
On Saturday (July 20), Morris shared video of a gigantic crowd at the 2019 Faster Horses Festival drowning her out as she sang the song.
"That was my first time really hearing 35,000 people sing it that loud," Morris admits, noting that the song is her fastest-rising single to date. "I didn't know how it was going to fare at radio, but I just believed in it so much, so I'm really sort of floored."
In the fall, Morris and Lambert will hit the road together: Morris is one of Lambert's special guests on her all-female Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour, which will begin in September. The two also collaborated for a song, "Too Pretty for Prison," that will appear on Lambert's forthcoming new album, which is also reportedly due out this fall.
"I knew from the second we were writing it that I would love to have Maren on it," Lambert says of the song, which she co-wrote with the Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose). "It popped in my head right away before the song was even done. So, I asked her to come in and sing on it."
