ToC Critic’s Pick: Michael Tyler, ‘They Can’t See’ [Listen]
Michael Tyler's "They Can't See" has an unfair advantage. The newcomer's debut song begins with what will be one of the best opening lines of 2017.
"Those stained glass eyes are always praying for me / She's a brand new end to my same old story," Tyler sings, telling one everything they need to know this girl before the soulful ballad hits the :20 mark. The rest of the song is a vocal playground for the talented singer. He's Hunter Hayes meets Chris Young — an artist willing to push the genre's boundaries while never coming unglued from his country moorings.
The beauty of a well-written song is its ability to pass by without notice the first time. Efficiency is as important as the colors a writer chooses to paint his musical scene. Tyler gets all that and then puts his mark on "They Can't See" with a personal, inspiring performance.
Did You Know?: Tyler co-wrote Dierks Bentley's No. 1 hit "Somewhere on a Beach."

Michael Tyler, "They Can't See" Lyrics:
Those stained glass eyes are always praying for me / She's a brand new end to my same old story / She says it all without saying a word / She'd give her last dollar just to change the world.
Chorus:
Everybody knows that she's beautiful / Drop dead gorgeous walking through that door / What makes that woman perfect is way more than skin deep / I'm in love with everything they can't see / Yeah I'm in love with everything they can't see.
She's a head on my shoulder, hand in mine forever / She's a take my breath, won't forget, best night of my life but better / When I'm bone dry, she's my summer rain / And I fall more in love with her every single day.
