Last month it was announced that the Lawton Economic Development Authority has sold a lot at the corner of NW Ferris Ave and 2nd Street that could bring a new grocery store to town. When news broke, Lawton residents began guessing at what new grocery store could be coming to town.

There are, of course, the grocery stores of hopes and dreams, like Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Whole Foods and H-E-B. But most of these stores are only located in cities with higher population counts than Lawton, and we all know H-E-B will probably never open a store outside Texas state lines.

As of Monday, August 18, there has not been a confirmation as to what grocery store will be coming to the corner of NW Ferris Ave and 2nd Street, but we do know for sure that sale stipulates that a majority of the lot has to be used for a grocery store.

This leaves residents wondering: what grocery stores could realistically come to Lawton?

Grocery Stores Most Likely to Open a Location in Lawton

Below are some of the guesses we saw on social media for possible grocery stores that could open in Lawton.

Homeland - Lawton currently has two locations on the east and west sides of town, plus a Cash Saver in the middle of town. Another Homeland seems highly likely, especially since the company is based in Oklahoma.

Reasor's - This one is a possibility and a longshot all in one. Reasor's is a chain of grocery stores mainly in the Tulsa area, but with the company being based in Oklahoma, it's more likely to open another Oklahoma location.

United/Market Street - United is based in Texas, but does have a few locations in Oklahoma, mostly in smaller towns. So a United in Lawton wouldn't be surprising. But if United decided to open one of its more upscale stores like a Market Street in Lawton, now that would be a welcomed surprise.

Aldi - Lawton only has one location on Sheridan Road, and Aldi is the second most popular grocery store in Oklahoma, so another location in town is likely.

Neighborhood Walmart - Lawton has two big Walmart locations and one Neighborhood Walmart. The lot that sold isn't large enough for a full size Walmart, so a Neighborhood Walmart would make sense in this location.

Dollar General Fresh Market - Lawton received its first Dollar General Fresh Market on the west side of town earlier this year. It has become popular with residents on that side of town, so it wouldn't be a shock if another one was built. PopShelf, a subsidiary of Dollar General, recently opened in the shopping center on 2nd Street near the sold lot.

Oklahoma's Best Gas Station Chains

Depending on where you are in Oklahoma, there are gas station chains specific to that area. For the most part, they all have their own niche and stay to their respective boundaries. Some are better than others, some are absolutely loathed. The question remains, as we wait on Buc-ees to make an entrance to the Oklahoma travel center landscape, can any of these brands hold a candle to the Texas giant?
