Lawton’s Downtown Transforms For A Lively Open Streets Day
Lawton residents will have more than Easter egg hunts to do this weekend! The spring Open Streets event will also take place this weekend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4 in downtown Lawton.
Visitors at Open Streets can enjoy free outdoor activities for the whole family all along C Avenue in front of Central Plaza. Several businesses and organizations from Lawton and Fort Sill will offer various opportunities for community fun on Saturday.
C Avenue between 2nd and 5th Street in downtown Lawton will be closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday.
The whole purpose of Open Streets is to get people out and active. Portions of C Avenue will be closed to vehicles on Saturday. The area of C Avenue the will be closed will be between 2nd and 5th Street.
Instead of vehicles, C Avenue will be filled with people taking part in various outdoor activities, playing games with local vendors, or enjoying local food trucks.
Open Streets is hosted by Fit Kids of Southwest Oklahoma and is free to attend.

Attendees can walk, bike, dance and more in the streets of downtown Lawton during Open Streets.
The concept of Open Streets is to open the streets to everyone and to promote outdoor activities in urban areas. The Lawton/Fort Sill Open Streets Facebook page shared a highlight video from the fall Open Streets event last year, and you can see kids biking, people dancing, and families walking together, all in the middle of the street in downtown Lawton.
