Randy Travis’ 911 Call Hits the Web
The 911 call made to Texas dispatchers after a passerby found an unclothed Randy Travis on the side of the road has surfaced on the internet. It’s the latest development in the scandal surrounding the troubled country music superstar, who was arrested late Tuesday night (August 7).
The unnamed caller seems rightfully distraught in phone clip, as he tries to explain to dispatchers where exactly Travis and his crashed vehicle could be found. It’s obvious the caller was unaware the unclothed man was the Grammy Award-winning singer, and was also not aware of the circumstances behind the bizarre scene.
As we reported yesterday, the ‘Three Wooden Crosses’ singer was taken in for suspicion of DWI, as well as retaliation and obstruction, after he allegedly crashed his car and “verbally threatened” a responding police officer. It was later reported that Travis was found naked at the time of his arrest, which is confirmed in the 911 call.
“Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication,” Sgt. Rickey Wheeler tells the AP. “While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case.”
Yesterday, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office had Travis in custody in Sherman, Texas — 60 miles north of Dallas — behind bars without bond. The 53-year-old singer was later released on a $21,500 bond and is currently awaiting a court appearance.
TMZ reports that Gary Corley, a local lawyer, posted Travis’ bond, telling the paparazzi website that Sherman, Texas is a close-knit community and that he wanted to “do the humanitarian thing” by helping Travis. Corley allegedly offered the singer his legal services on the spot.
The singer was seen leaving the jail sporting a paper suit given to him by local authorities, as well as a Texas Longhorns hat meant to help him shield his face from photographers, courtesy of Corley.
Representatives for Randy Travis have declined comment on the incident.
