Reed’s Red Dirt Ranch Rodeo Back for Second Year!
After a successful first rodeo, Reed's Red Dirt Ranch is back for 'Not our First Rodeo' year two!
Sherry Reed has long taught children of all ages to ride horses. It's her love, and she loves sharing it with children. Sherry doesn't just teach them to ride, they also learn grooming, taking care of saddles and tack, and so much more.
Last year, Sherry and Don Reed of Reed's Red Dirt Ranch put in an actual arena. Kids who ride horses, don't have tournaments, like with other sports, so rodeo is the only way for them to show what they have learned throughout the year. But, kids learn at different paces and levels, so they are not only competing with the other students, but also compete against their own personal best times. Just like a regular rodeo!
The rodeo takes place this Saturday, August 20 at Reed's Red Dirt Ranch, 90th and Baseline Road. Turn left, and you'll see the arena on the left-hand side of the road. There is no admission, but you will want to bring lawn chairs, and maybe an umbrella for some shade. The rodeo will start promptly at 9 am.
Free admission is made possible by sponsorship donations. Some are banner sponsors, buckle sponsors, or just general donations that go to keep the arena in tip-top shape. Contestant age groups are Tiny Tots, Tots, Peanuts, PeeWees, and Juniors. All contestants in the rodeo are required to wear boots, hats, and long sleeves for all events.
Events for Reed's Red Dirt Ranch Rodeo include Barrels, Pole Bending, Flag Pole, Potato, Goat Tying, and Goat Undressing. The hope is for Reed's Red Dirt Ranch rodeo to be a sanctioned rodeo in time. For more information, or if you'd like to sponsor this event, contact Sherry Reed at 580-583-9528.
