Riley Smith has just filmed his debut music video, and he's sharing it with Taste of Country readers first.

Best known to country music fans for his role as Markus Keen on Nashville, Smith has also appeared on True Blood, True Detective, and most recently on the CW’s Frequency. He found the time he spent in Music City both musically invigorating and isolating at times, and those feelings inspired the emotions that he poured into his self-titled debut EP, which is set for release on July 21.

Smith co-wrote the project's lead single, "I'm on Fire," with Nashville tunesmiths Matthew Perryman Jones and Tim Lauer. He feels the song "exemplified what my time writing in Nashville was all about to me. The synergy. The talent."

The actor and singer wore multiple hats for the "I'm on Fire video shoot, not only starring in the new clip but also writing the script, casting the actors and working hard to develop something different that represented the song.

"Making the music video for 'I'm on Fire' was one of the most creative experiences I have had in my career," he tells Taste of Country. "I have always had a love for being on both sides of the camera and knew exactly what I wanted to develop when I set out on this video journey. I spent countless hours writing the treatment, casting the actors and calling in favors from my talented group of friends who all stepped up, pitched in and helped make the video for the love of art. I didn’t want to make just another music video, I wanted to tell a story. I set out to create something that will hopefully move the audience to feel something. To see a piece of their own relationships in these characters we created."
