Famous Route 66 Celebration This Weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Did you know that Oklahoma holds more miles of the historic Route 66 highway than any other state in the U.S.? There is more than 400 miles of America's history running right through the sooner state. This weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma, everyone can learn the history of the road and celebrate it's influence on our country as a whole in the Route 66 Road Fest.

The festival is June 22 and 23 at the Tulsa Expo Center, indoors and family friendly. This year will have the classic car show for hot-rod fanatics and even a special appearance from Richard Rawlings, the man behind Gas Monkey Garage. He'll actually be at the festival, wanting to visit with fans and visitors.

The festival is meant to throwback to history, teaching a little while still having fun. Children are able to learn about the road, the cars and Oklahoma while painting, exploring, playing games and more.

Speaking of cars, this year they plan on having some truly iconic vehicles at the event, like the drag strip funny car.

This festival is also the kick off for the Centennial Celebration of the "Mother Road," which will offially be 100 years old in 2026.

Along with the activities, the Road Fest brings along its own interactive reinactments of what life was like on the O.G. Route 66. And just to add to the authentic experience, they'll have live actors dressed and acting the part.

Depending on where you are in Oklahoma, there are gas station chains specific to that area. For the most part, they all have their own niche and stay to their respective boundaries. Some are better than others, some are absolutely loathed. The question remains, as we wait on Buc-ees to make an entrance to the Oklahoma travel center landscape, can any of these brands hold a candle to the Texas giant?
