Gene Autry’s “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” debuted on the charts. The recording of the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop singles chart the week of Christmas 1949. Autry's recording sold 2.5 million copies the first year, eventually selling a total of 25 million, and it remained the second best-selling record of all time until the 1980s.
It let to a theatrical short, a children's book, a comic book, a legendary television special and a full length theatrical feature.
2009
Taylor Swift picks up eight nominations in the 52nd annual Grammy Awards. Her haul includes Record and Song of the Year, for "You Belong With Me"; and Album of the Year, for Fearless.
2002
Kenny Chesney's album No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems goes double-platinum, It featured the singles "Young" (#2), "The Good Stuff" (#1), "A Lot of Things Different" (#6), "Big Star" (#2), and the title track (#2).
The album has since been certified 4x platinum.
1999
The Dixie Chicks’ CD Fly was certified triple platinum. "Ready to Run" (#2), "Cowboy Take Me Away" (#1), "Without You" (#1), "Goodbye Earl" (#13), "Cold Day in July" (#10), "Heartbreak Town" (#23), "Some Days You Gotta Dance" (#7)and "If I Fall You're Going Down with Me" (#20) were all released as singles; "Sin Wagon" also charted (#52) without officially being released as a single.
The album has since been certified 10x platinum.
