Runaway June Spotlight 'We Were Rich' During 'GMA' Performance

Runaway June know money doesn't buy happiness. The country trio spotlighted their new song "We Were Rich" during a recent performance on Good Morning America.

"We didn't have it all, but we all thought we did / And I remember Mama saying we're blessed, and I believed her," Runaway June's Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne sing in "We Were Rich," which spotlights their gorgeous three-part harmonies. "I never thought the grass was greener / On the other side of our old chainlink fence / Yeah, we were rich."

Written by Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon and Ashley Gorley, "We Were Rich" made Cooke cry the first time she heard it. "I have 10 brothers and sisters – I'm from a big, big family – and we were really poor growing up. We only had one bathroom," she tells the Boot. "And there's a line that says, 'One bathroom sink / We all took turns,' and I just [started bawling] – pouring tears, like, gotta have that song."

The song, she adds, "felt like childhood and home" to her bandmates, too. "When we heard it, it was like, 'I couldn't have said that any better myself if [I] tried,'" Cooke says.

"We Were Rich" comes from Runaway June's recent album, Blue Roses. The first single from that project, "Buy My Own Drinks," made history as the first song by a female trio or group to ascend into the Top 5 on the Mediabase country chart since the Dixie Chicks did so in 2003. Their next single will be "Head Over Heels."

Runaway June are currently on the road with Carrie Underwood, on her Cry Pretty Tour 360, which runs through the end of October.
