The T Bone Burnett-produced O Brother, Where Are Thou? wins Album of the Year and one of its tracks, The Soggy Bottom Boys' "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow," gets Single of the Year during the 35th Country Music Association awards in Nashville. Other winners that night were Tim McGraw for Entertainer of the Year, Toby Keith for Male Vocalist and Lee Ann Womack for Female Vocalist of the Year.
Australia’s greatest import, Keith Urban, won the Horizon award, Lonestar was named Vocal Group of the Year, while Brooks & Dunn made their annual trip to the podium for the Vocal Duo of the Year. The Vocal Event of the Year award went to Bill Anderson, George Jones, Buck Owens and Brad Paisley for "Too Country" and Larry Cordle and Larry Shell’s composition “Murder On Music Row” was named Song of the Year. Dan Huff was name Musician of the Year and Sara Evan’s “Born To Fly” was named Video of the Year.”

Blake Shelton picked up a gold album for Red River Blue. The album features the singles “Honey Bee” and “God Gave Me You”, both #1 hits, as well as the unreleased title track, a duet with Shelton’s wife Miranda Lambert.

Alabama’s For The Record: 41 Number Hits was certified quadruple platinum. The album chronicles the biggest hits from Alabama released between 1980 and 1998, including their 33 #1 hits. The compilation includes “Why Lady, Why?”, “Close Enough To Perfect” and “Lady Down On Love.”
LeAnn Rimes’ album Blue was certified multi-platinum for sales of 5 million copies. The album produced 4 singles: "Blue" (#10), "One Way Ticket (Because I Can)" (#1), "Unchained Melody" (#11) and "The Light in Your Eyes" (#5). The album has since certified 6x platinum by the RIAA.
Shania Twain’s album The Woman In Me was certified multi-platinum for sales of 10 million copies. 8 singles were released from the album, including: “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?,” "(If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!," “Any Man Of Mine,” the title track and “You Win My Love.”
This certification comes two years to the day of the album being certified 3x platinum by the RIAA. The album, named the 1996 CMA Album of The Year, has since certified 12x platinum by the RIAA and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ debut album, Some Gave All, was certified multi-platinum for sales of 8 million copies. The album produced four singles, the first of which was Cyrus's breakthrough song "Achy Breaky Heart" which went to #1 in 6 countries, including the U.S. and Canada.
"Could've Been Me" (#2), "Wher'm I Gonna Live?" (#23) and "She's Not Cryin' Anymore" (#6) were also released as singles, while the title track reached #52 based on unsolicited airplay.
