The Grascals, ‘Demons’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Nashville-based bluegrass outfit the Grascals are premiering their new song “Demons” exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen.
As its title might indicate, “Demons” confronts in its lyrics the things that scare us most, particularly the uglier side of real life. It might not be the most uplifting tune, but its stellar harmonies and excellent instrumentation make "Demons" the best kind of dark ballad.
“I really like singin’ songs about life and truth, and there ain’t nothing but the truth in the lyrics of the song "Demons,"” Grascals founding member Terry Eldredge tells The Boot. “Demons are real, my friend.”
Written by Bill Anderson and Jon Randall, “Demons” wasn’t actually intended to be a bluegrass song until the Grascals offered up their unique take on the tune.
“Terry’s haunting vocals and the dark, minor-key instrumentation woven around them are the perfect combination,” says Anderson. “I had never pictured "Demons" as a bluegrass song until I heard the Grascals’ version of it. I am really proud to have my name on this record.”
Together since 2004, the Grascals first rose to fame after being hand-chosen by Dolly Parton to work as her band and opening act; they performed alongside Parton at Dollywood and the Grand Ole Opry. Since then, the group has recorded three full-length albums and worked with even more big country names, including Steve Wariner, Dierks Bentley and George Jones.
“Demons” appears on Before Breakfast, the Grascals’ upcoming new album, set for release on Sept. 1. Visit Grascals.com to learn more.
