‘The Voice:’ Aliyah Moulden Exudes Elegance on MercyMe Song [Watch]
Aliyah Moudlen closed out The Voice Semifinals with a powerful performance of "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe.
Following her tear-inducing performance of "Jealous" during Top 10 week, Moulden's coach, Blake Shelton, said the MercyMe track would feel like a "celebration" for his contestant, calling it "emotional" and "inspirational." He went on to compliment her "powerful" voice, saying she's connecting with the songs she sings as if she's written them herself — he even admitted to crying after re-watching the emotional performance.
The young signer easily had the most elaborate set of the night, standing in the middle of a decorative garden complete with a quaint bridge and dozens of pretty flowers. Moulden graced the stage with her eloquent presence and equally elegant vocal delivery, exuding enough confidence to bring the song's spiritual lyrics to life. The presence of young dancers was not only a pleasant surprise. but added an even more dynamic element to the performance, and Moulden hit even the highest of notes. Shelton and Gwen Stefani both awarded her with a standing ovation as she smiled with glee after the beautiful demonstration.
Shelton may have paid her the kindest compliment yet, however, when he told her that the whole reason he signed on to coach The Voice was to find singers that evolve throughout the show's process. "You are the model The Voice contestant, bar none, that we've ever seen on this show," he raved, with Moulden rushing to the end of the stage to give her coach the biggest hug.
The California native will know if she's made it to the final four on Tuesday (May 16) when the voting results are announced live at 8PM ET on NBC.
