‘The Wolverine 2’ Casts ‘Narcos’ Star Boyd Holbrook as the Villain
It’s a big day for the leading men of Netflix’s Narcos — following Pedro Pascal’s casting in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Boyd Holbrook has lined up a pretty major role in another 20th Century Fox franchise sequel: The Wolverine 2. The actor will go head to head with Hugh Jackman, playing the main villain in Wolverine’s final big screen outing.
Per Deadline, Holbrook has joined The Wolverine 2 as an antagonist described as the “relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise.” That’s vague enough to leave us without a clue, particularly since the upcoming sequel is based in part on Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan comic series, which features a lot of Marvel characters that currently belong to Marvel Studios — primarily the Hulk.
In any case, Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for The Wolverine 2, with Patrick Stewart returning as Professor Charles Xavier. The Wolverine director James Mangold is returning to helm the sequel, which begins filming this May. No other casting has yet been announced, and while Jackman has said that the sequel will be his final appearance as the iconic X-Men character, there have been rumors that he may have a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse.
The Wolverine 2 hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
