December 4th, 1956
During a Carl Perkins recording session also involving Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, Elvis Presley visited the studio and jammed with Perkins and Lewis extensively with the tape recorders rolling. (Cash reportedly participated briefly in the jam before leaving the studio with his wife and daughter.)
The four men become known as "The Million Dollar Quartet", and the complete tape from this legendary session was eventually released on compact disc in 1987.
2008
Taylor Swift’s album Fearless surpassed 1 million copies scanned in just three weeks. The album featured five singles: "Love Story" (#15 - Swift's signature song and is her best-selling song to date, selling more than 8 million copies). "White Horse" (#2), "You Belong with Me" (#1), "Fifteen" (#7) and "Fearless" (#10), all of which have been certified as gold singles or better.
The album has been certified for sales of over 9 million copies and has been certified as the most awarded album in country music history.
2003
Toby Keith’s album Shock’n Y’all surpassed the 1 million mark in sales in just four weeks on the chart. The album featured three #1 singles, "I Love This Bar", "American Soldier" and "Whiskey Girl."
The album has since been certified 4x platinum by the RIAA.
Ricky Skaggs receives five nominations for the annual Grammy awards, more than any other country artist. Willie Nelson takes four, while Alison Krauss nets three nominations.
