‘It’ Producer Compares Stephen King Adaptation to ‘Stranger Things,’ Time Collapses in On Itself
Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers recently revealed that they once offered to direct the new adaptation of Stephen King’s It, but Warner Bros. politely declined. Instead, they went off and made a Stephen King story of their own with their hit Netflix series. Perhaps returning the shout-out favor, one of the producers behind It is comparing the upcoming film to Stranger Things, thus creating a nostalgia paradox that will inevitably cause the internet to implode.
‘Bad Boys 3’ Gets a New Title and Another Release Date Delay
Bad Boys 3 is finally gearing up to head into production with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence returning to reprise their roles from Michael Bay’s previous films. But with filming not set to begin until early next year, the release date for the long-developing sequel has been delayed yet again, this time to 2018. On the slightly more positive side of things, the sequel has a new title, and it’s one that should earn the approval of Bad Boys fans.
‘Wolverine 3’ Might Be Patrick Stewart’s Last ‘X-Men’ Film, Too
The upcoming Wolverine sequel has long been hyped as Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the iconic hero, but he may not be the only one preparing to say farewell to the X-Men franchise. In a new interview, Patrick Stewart reveals that Wolverine 3 (or 2, if you’re ignoring X-Men Origins) may very well feature his last appearance as Professor Charles Xavier.
Winter Soldier Will Return in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
We already know that Avengers: Infinity War will feature the biggest roster of MCU characters yet — even bigger than Captain America: Civil War, no doubt, as Marvel’s next Avengers chapter is set to deliver an epic conclusion to Phase 3 (and finally give Thanos a chance to stretch his space-legs). Now that the studio has scaled the two-parter back to one film, it’s unclear if that lineup will still be as massive as originally planned, but it looks like we know of at least a couple more characters who will return.
‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel Probably Not Happening as Sony Sets Sights on Animated Projects
Just last month, Sony exec Rory Bruer said he had “no doubt” that the studio would move forward with a sequel to Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. That was then, this is now: The all-female reimagining of the 1984 classic has made $180 million at the global box office, which isn’t enough to justify Sony’s production and marketing costs…or a sequel, for that matter.
Details on New ‘Rogue One’ Jedi Planet and Riz Ahmed’s Mysterious Rebel Pilot
The latest trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will debut Thursday night during NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Olympics, but until then, we have some new intel on Gareth Edwards’ spinoff / prequel to hold you over. Specifically, Edwards has offered interesting details on a new desert planet (yes, another one) featured in Rogue One, while Riz Ahmed shares a little background on his mysterious Rebel pilot character, Bodhi.
That ‘Friday the 13th’ Sequel Has a New Director (Again)
It’s been a long, long, long, long road for the new Friday the 13th movie, which was originally announced back in 2013. Since then, the project has made a few trips through the rumor mill, landing and losing a director and picking up a few different release dates along the way. Maybe things are finally turning around for the latest installment in the classic franchise, as Paramount and Platinum Dunes have their sights set on a new director.
Live-Action ‘Curious George’ Movie in the Works From ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ Director
Not to be outdone by Disney, Universal is cooking up some live-action brand management of their own. In addition to their competing Little Mermaid film, the studio is developing a live-action adaptation of Curious George, based on the classic children’s book series that already inspired an animated movie in 2006. Oh, and they just landed a director, too.
First Look at Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in Denis Villeneuve’s Sci-Fi Drama ‘Arrival’
We don’t know a whole lot about Arrival, but what we do know is enough to make it one of our most anticipated films of the year: The new sci-fi drama (previously titled Story of Your Life) comes from Sicario and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve and stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and while we anxiously await an official trailer, the first photos have, well, arrived.
‘Suicide Squad’ Easter Egg Reveals Who Really Killed Robin (Maybe)
By now you’re very familiar with the big Robin easter egg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — you know the one: Robin’s suit covered in neon graffiti that reads, “Ha ha ha, joke’s on you, Batman!” The culprit seemed obvious at the time, but thanks to a blink-and-you-might-miss-it easter egg in Suicide Squad, Robin’s real killer might not be such a joker after all…or maybe they are.
Miles Teller Isn’t So Sure About This ‘Divergent’ TV Movie Thing
Lionsgate recently announced that the final film in the Divergent series will skip theaters entirely and head straight to television, with additional plans to launch a spinoff series. Although the franchise has suffered diminishing returns at the box office, news of the Ascendant TV movie and (possible) spinoff was still a bit surprising to everyone — including Miles Teller, who seems somewhat hesitant about this whole television business.
First Look at the New ‘Star Wars’ Ship From ‘Rogue One’
Although Rogue One takes place shortly before the events of A New Hope, it does feature some tech and vehicles that we haven’t previously seen in the Star Wars universe. That’s already inspired a bit of nitpicking among fans, but we can all probably agree that this new addition is pretty cool: It’s called a U-Wing, and we’re going to be seeing a lot more of it when Rogue One hits theaters in December.
