Matt Damon Says He Would Be the Superhero Ben Affleck Deserves
Matt Damon has done a lot of things: He’s played a super spy, a con-man, an informant, an astronaut, a genius, and all sorts of fun characters who could also be action figures. The one thing he hasn’t done yet is play a superhero, and according to the star of Jason Bourne, that’s something he’d be willing to do for the right director — like maybe his BFF Ben Affleck.
‘Spider-Man’ Producer Says Tom Holland Is the ‘Definitive’ Spidey, Explains ‘Homecoming’ Title
Any apprehension about another reboot of the Spider-Man franchise went out the door when Tom Holland made his web-slinging debut in Captain America: Civil War. With Marvel calling the creative shots on Spider-Man: Homecoming (and a cast that gets better every week), our faith in Spidey has been officially renewed. And Sony is feeling pretty confident, too, as executive Tom Rothman recently spoke about the upcoming film, offering an explanation for the Homecoming title and declaring Holland the best Spider-Man yet.
This New ‘Ghostbusters’ Video Game Is a Major Disappointment
Movies and video games don’t exactly have the most pleasant working relationship. Films based on hit games are usually terrible (seriously, have you ever seen a good movie based on one?), and games based on movies aren’t always stellar, either. An official tie-in video game isn’t really a requirement, but if the film in question is a big budget blockbuster based on a popular existing brand, it presents an opportunity to cross revenue streams for an easy cash-in. Unfortunately, the trailer for the new Ghostbusters video game feels like a perfunctory afterthought — as if Sony suddenly snapped awake one morning and thought, “Oh, right, we should probably do that.”
The Strange, Short-Lived ‘Bill and Ted’ TV Show That Time Most Righteously Forgot
If you were a fan of Bill & Ted in the late ’80s and early ’90s, then you probably recall a time when Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves’ rad, time-traveling high school party dudes were pretty much everywhere. They had their own animated TV spinoff, a Halloween special and even a breakfast cereal (“the most triumphant part of this balanced breakfast!”). What you might not remember is their incredibly short-lived live-action TV series — and who could blame you?
We’re All Criminals Now: Sharing Netflix and HBO Go Passwords Is a Federal Crime
Chances are, you or someone you know either shares their Netflix and HBO Go passwords or benefits from using someone else’s account. It’s such a common occurrence that, when asked about it, even the CEO of HBO was like, “No big deal,” then he tipped his shades and sent out a memo with a shrug emoticon — okay, I made that last part up, but if even that guy doesn’t care, then what’s the problem? Oh, just a little something called Federal Law.
Javier Bardem in Talks For ‘Frankenstein’ in Universal’s New Monsters Universe
Universal’s plans to reboot their classic monsters into a shared franchise universe are certainly ambitious, to say the least. In addition to casting Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe in The Mummy, the studio has Johnny Depp lined up to play The Invisible Man, and there have been talks of getting Dwayne Johnson for The Wolf Man and Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein. You can add another great actor to that list, as Javier Bardem is reportedly in talks to play Frankenstein’s monster in Universal’s reboot of Frankenstein.
Colin Firth’s Return Confirmed in ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Set Photo
A few months back, Taron Egerton teased the return of Colin Firth in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to his surprise hit film based on Mark Millar’s graphic novel. Despite the fact that [SPOILER] Firth’s return seemed a bit impossible given the ending of Kingsman: The Secret Service, a new photo from the set of the sequel confirms that Harry Hart is indeed back, and he’s palling around with one of your favorite Game of Thrones stars.
George Takei Says ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Sulu Reveal Is ‘Unfortunate’
Well this is certainly unexpected. Earlier today, we learned that Star Trek Beyond will reveal that John Cho’s Sulu is gay, a move partially intended to honor the legacy of George Takei, the actor who originated the iconic role in the classic television series and who himself came out as gay in 2005. You’d think that Takei of all people would be thrilled by the decision, but that’s not exactly the case.
‘Sing’ Trailer: More Animated Talking Animals, This Time With Singing
This is a big year for animated movies featuring talking animals: Zootopia, Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets and now, Sing. But what sets the latest adventure apart from its animated brethren is right there in the title, and you can get a taste of what’s in store this Christmas thanks to a new extended trailer, featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey and a whole bunch of other people you really like.
Sigourney Weaver Is Still Talking About Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Sequel
Today brings news that San Diego Comic-Con will play host to a special panel to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Aliens, James Cameron’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror classic. Cameron himself will be in attendance along with Sigourney Weaver, who is still talking up Neill Blomkamp’s new Alien sequel despite reports that the project had been delayed due to Scott’s own Alien prequel plans.
Even Daisy Ridley’s Hair Is Top Secret in ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’
It’s no secret that production on the new Star Wars trilogy has been, well, top secret. Although director Rian Johnson has shared a few photos from the set of Episode VIII, they haven’t been particularly revelatory, as everything from the plot to the costumes has been shrouded in secrecy. That includes Daisy Ridley’s hair — quite literally, as you can see in a new video in which the actress shows off her workout routine.
Bryan Cranston Says the New ‘Power Rangers’ Movie Is Like ‘The Dark Knight’
In news to be filed under “Sure, okay,” Bryan Cranston has some interesting things to say about what we can expect from that new Power Rangers movie reboot — mostly that it’s “unrecognizable,” except not, and that it’s comparable to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, except also kind of not. But really, who’s to say?
