On Thursdays, we take pride in presenting the best in unsigned or independent label artists, and today we present a singer and songwriter who has taken on Nashville the old fashioned way: with hard work and taking it a little bit at a time. A west Texas native who balances a strong sense of self with a work effort that keeps him moving forward, even when the progress is slow.

Odessa, TX native Brian Milson tells people that he is nine years into his ten year plan to be an overnight success. He discovered his singing voice in his freshman year of high school completely by accident. He needed an elective for his class schedule, and he found no better option than choir. Milson discovered he had two things: a passion for the music and a baritone voice. During high school he learned guitar, but he had difficulty finding a way to meld the kind of music he loved, with the music that his voice was meant to sing. It wasn't until his senior year in high school that the light went on in his head.

It was during an audition for his school's Show Choir that Milson found his nitch. He combined songs by Pearl Jam, George Strait, Kenny Chesney and the Goo Goo Dolls and made the choir. After high school is where his true journey to Nashville began. He began performing in clubs around Lubbock, his first gig being as an opening act at Rocky LaRue's, but soon spreading out and accepting traveling gigs. Early on, he learned to give his all in every performance, no matter the club, no matter the crowd, building on every opportunity, touring the Texas circuit, traveling between Lubbock, Odessa and Wichita Falls regularly starting in 2003.

Milson recently made the decision to take his career to the next level. He moved to Nashville, leaving the safety of the Texas circuit behind. He signed a distribution deal to get his music out there, a publishing deal to get his music to the right people and a management deal to get it to the right people. He is working with songwriter and producer Anthony Smith on a new project that Milson says has a traditional sound with an edge. The fist single from that new project is in our spotlight today. Brian Milson and "Gonna Be A Song Someday" is our Unsigned/Indy Artist Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll wanna hear it again.
