Today's spotlight falls on the quintessential California girl, a former Miss Nevada who is out to prove that you don't have to be born in the south to have a southern attitude. An artist who is a paradoxical combination of California sunshine and Nashville strong.

Growing up in rural San Diego county in California, Caleche Ryder is the ultimate California girl, with a touch of country attitude. She grew up riding horses, but today she rides a Harley as easily as she rides a horse, and has come to personify the phrase "West Coast Country".

With a self-described "obsession" with country music, Caleche's journey to country music stardom started at an early age. She pursued a degree in music at the University of Nevade, and used her voice in the talent competition when she competed for the Miss America title in 2008. Her distinctive vocal style, life-based writing and looks make this former Miss Nevada a total package to be reckoned with. Ryder pours her experiences with loss, betrayal and redemption into her writing, bringing out a fresh, tough sound that makes listeners perk up and pay attention.

Growing up, Caleche listened to and memorized country songs that talked about a place she couldn't relate to...the south; today she hopes to bring a west coast flair to country music. Ryder is currently working on her first album, with noted L.A. producer David Kidd, hoping to bring out that West Coast Country attitude.

From the project comes today's featured song, Caleche Ryder and "West Coast Cowgirl", today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
