Today we feature a singer songwriter whose grandfather was a performer on the legendary Louisiana Hayride, and who has become an international ambassador for country music in just a few short years. A journey he almost didn't undertake, except for the advice of friends.

Chris Young was influenced by country music early in life. His maternal grandfather, Richard Yates, was a member of the Louisiana Hayride, performing regularly on the program. Young Chris took it to heart at a young age, performing in local children's theater, singing in choir, and performing in local clubs while still in high school. While in college, Chris also toured with his music, performing more than 150 dates per year.

But it wasn't until a pair of friends convinced Young to attend an audition in Houston for the tv show Nashville Star that the singer would catch his break. Young was performing in Dallas and was hesitant in making the drive to south Texas, but his friends convinced him that even if he didn't make the program the audition would be good for him. Not only did Chris audition for the program and pass, but he went on to win the program and earned a recording contract with RCA Records. His self-titled debut album soon followed, featuring two singles, "Drinkin' Me Lonely" and "You're Gonna Love Me". Both singles failed to crack the top-40 on the Billboard Country charts, but Young was definitely on his way in Nashville.

In 2008 Young released his third single, "Voices", originally getting the song out to audiences by emailing it to those that visited his booth at the CMA Music Festival. The song, the lead single from his second album The Man I Want To Be became his first top-40 single, peaking at #37. The album would feature three #1 singles; the title track, "Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song)" and a re-release of "Voices". His third album, 2011's Neon, would feature two more #1 singles, "Tomorrow" and "You", which would give him 5-straight chart toppers, a streak that was ended by the album's third single, "I Can Take It From There", which would peak at #4.

Young has since released two more albums, 2013's A.M. and I'm Comin' Over, which was released in November of last year, and featured two more #1 hits, the title track and his duet with Cassadee Pope, "Think of You". The third single from I'm Comin' Over is in our spotlight today. Chris Young, with a little help from Vince Gill,  and "Sober Saturday Night" is toady's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you're going to want to hear it again.
