Today's Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday featured artist is a good ol' corn fed boy from Westfield, IN, who took up playing guitar because he wanted to sing.

Sports fans will recognize the name, but this John Riggins doesn't crash through defensive lines, he's is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter who taught himself how to play guitar in 2008, because he wanted to play local bars, but couldn't find a band to back him. It been a quick learning curve for Riggins ever since.

Riggins quickly began playing local honky-tonks for tips and soon was teaming with other local musicians and formed his first band in 2010. Their first appearance was in a local battle of the bands, where, without a drummer or bass player, they beat out more than 30 other bands to make the finals. The event led to the group opening for name performers like Jason Michael Carroll, Marks Wills and Darryl Worley. I was at this point Riggins decided that music was his future, moving to Nashville full time in 2013. It was a crazy dream to most, but John Riggins he was following a passion.
