‘Catch of the Day’ – Morgan Evans – “Kiss Somebody” [AUDIO]
Today our focus is on an artist whose biggest claim to fame in country music was that he is engaged to Kelsea Ballerini. Born and raised in Australia, where he has released a 2014 debut album and two EPs, he is hoping to follow the path led by Keith Urban
from Australia to Nashville fame.
Morgan Evans has been an artist waiting to break through for nearly a decade in his native Australia, winning the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition in 2007. This victory led to a recording contract with Sony BMG, and before the year was out, his debut single "Big Skies". His relationship with the label ended after the single failed to chart; Evans wouldn't sign a new contract until 2012.
The singer released his self-titled debut album in Australia in 2014, where it topped the Australian Country Albums chart. The album featured two singles which failed to chart on the Australian Country Singles chart. The album was released after Evans won the 2013 New Artist of the Year from CMC (Country Music Channel) in Australia. In 2014 and 2015 he would win the Cable Channel's Male Artist of the Year award, rounding out 2014 opening for Taylor Swift and Alan Jackson on their Australian tours.
Three #1 singles off of the EPs Live Each Day and While We're Young fueled Evans' rise in his home country. In 2016 he would move to Nashville and begin work on his first US album. It didn't hurt that he had one of country music's brightest young stars by his side, having become engaged to Kelsea Ballerini on Christmas Day.
We have the lead single from that debut US album in our spotlight today. Brought to you by All American Super Car Wash of Lawton, Morgan Evans and "Kiss Somebody" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
