Today's Catch of the Day comes to us from south of the border...the Texas border. It bends the normal rule that you may not of heard it before, because those that listen to Buddy Logan & Radio Texas Live have definitely heard of the Cody Johnson Band.

Cody Johnson & the band that bares his name currently sit atop the Texas Country music charts with their latest single, but the long road to the top began long before the single and album of the same name were released in January of this year.

Johnson began singing and playing guitar when he was twelve years old. In 2006, with the help of his father Carl, the younger Johnson formed the Cody Johnson Band with  drummer Nathan Reedy. The trio recorded an album, Black and White Label. In 2007, the band added a lead guitar player, Matt Rogers, and recorded a live album, Live and Rocking, at Shenanigans and Confetti's Club in Huntsville.

Carl left the band after the live album was released, and in 2009 Danny Salinas joined the band on bass. The group's first professionally produced album, Six Strings One Dream, was released in September 2009. Three singles from the album made it into the top 10 of the Texas music charts. Following the release of the album, the band added Jody Bartula on fiddle and Jeff Smith on lead guitar.

2011 saw the release of the album A Different Day, which led to Johnson winning the 2011 Texas Regional Music Award for New Male Vocalist of the Year. After a temporary name change to the Rockin' CJB's, the Cody Johnson Band is back, with their second album produced by Trent Willmon. Today's Catch is the title track from that album "Cowboy Like Me."

The Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you will want to hear it again.
