Toby Keith has pretty much turned anything he has touched into gold or platinum. But his recording career wasn't always a rousing success. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Keith was a football player in high school and for a short time at the University of Oklahoma, also playing for the semi-pro Oklahoma City Drillers. After an unsuccessful try out for the Oklahoma City Outlaws of the USFL, Keith decided to concentrate on his music, but despite his family and friends doubts, the band he put together in 1984, Easy Money, began to have success, touring Oklahoma and Texas.

In 1990, Keith headed to Nashville to begin dispersing the bands demo tape. When no interest was shown by any record label, Keith returned to Oklahoma. At the time he told himself he had until he turned 30 to land a record deal or he was giving up music. In the meantime, a flight attendant he had given a copy of his demo to, passed it on to Harold Shedd of Mercury Records. Shedd was impressed by the demo and traveled to Texas to hear Keith play, and soon after offered him a record contract in 1991.

Since signing with Mercury in 1992, Keith has released 18 studio albums, 5 compilations and 2 holiday albums for three record labels, including his own Show Dog Nashville Records. He has scored 42 top-10 hits off of those albums, including 20 number 1s. Keith has a new album in the works, and the lead single from that project is in our spotlight today.
