Today we focus on an artist from Sarepta, Louisiana, who is not only a singer, but also an actor, writer, successful reality show contestant and a voice heard regularly on popular commercials and animated TV series. That and considering he has survived a severe traffic accident as a teenager, a horrific hand injury working the oil fields, being shot through the heart and lungs, being unceremoniously dumped by three record companies and finally being fired by Donald Trump, he is also a survivor.

Trace Adkins hit country music in 1995 with his debut album, Dreamin' Out Loud, and has released a total of 11 studio albums and 2 greatest hits compilations, of which 8 have been certified gold or better. He has twice competed on the TV reality series The Celebrity Apprentice, finishing second in 2008 and winning the competition in 2013.

Adkins has also made several appearances as the voice for recurring character Elvin on King of the Hill, and in television commercial voice-overs for the KFC fast food restaurant chain and the "Firestone Tire and Rubber Company". Adkins released an autobiography in 2007 entitled A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Free-Thinking Roughneck, and he has appeared in numerous films, including The Lincoln Lawyer and Moms' Night Out. He can also be seen or heard as the spokesperson for the Food Allergy and Anaphalitic Network, the Wounded Warrior Foundation and The American Red Cross.

In April of 2014, Adkins was signed to a recording contract by Broken Bow Records as the first and feature artist for their brand new label, Wheelhouse Records. This brought a tumultuous 3 year stretch to a close for Atkins, who had seen his Brentwood, Tennessee burn to the ground in 2011 and his record label, Show-Dog Records drop him in 2013, after releasing three top-5 albums with the label. Things got worse for Adkins in 2014, when he checked himself into rehab after an altercation on a cruise ship, the second time through rehab for the singer. Later in the year, his wife Rhonda filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences; the couple has not completed the divorce and while separated, are still married.

A new year, and its new record label and a new single on the horizon for Adkins, with a new album also in the works. The first single from that album is in our spotlight today; Trace Adkins and "Jesus and Jones" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
