Armed Forces Day is on Saturday, May 19th and the City of Lawton has planned fun activities for everyone to enjoy the Nation's Biggest Armed Forces Appreciation Day. The parade will take place at Elmer Thomas Park.

On May 19th, join the Lawton Fort Sill community in celebrating Armed Forces Day. As more men and women return from duties overseas it is important to take time to honor those that have served and fought to protect our freedom.

For the first time ever, an honor flight will be chartered out of the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport.  This flight will give World War II veterans an opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifice.

Members of the Army and Marine Corps are often taught aggressive driving techniques while they’re deployed in areas like Iraq and Afghanistan. And according to insurance company USAA, they’re bringing those driving habits home — and causing more accidents as a result.

Much need it funding has been awarded to the State of Oklahoma to help with the housing of homeless veterans. Three housing agencies in Oklahoma will split $381,311. The Department of Housinig and Urban Development officials said the money will supply permanent housing and case management for 90 homeless veterans.
