I know everyone in Oklahoma has been absolutely miserable this week with the extreme heat. But relief is in site! According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, we have one more hot day to go. I think we can do this!

Cooler temperatures and severe weather will kick off this July 4th weekend.

With cool temperatures on the horizon, that means severe weather chances are back. The extreme heat gave us a bit of a break from heavy rain, high winds and big hail, but it looks like our old friends will return starting this evening (Friday, June 30).

And it looks like that severe weather weather will roll into Saturday kicking off July. Luckily, the tornado potential is low, hail is only expected to be up to quarter size and winds are predicted to reach up to 60 miles per hour. Nothing we can't handle!

It looks like the biggest weather threat for Saturday is rain, and lots of it! Areas across Oklahoma could see anywhere from 15 percent to 60 percent chance of rain.

We definitely need it after a week of baking in the heat!

What's most important: the cooler temperatures.

As we move through the weekend, temperatures are just going to keep getting cooler and cooler! For summer, that is. Most of Oklahoma will still be in the low to mid 90s, but that's much better than over 100 degrees! And if you look closely, we could be seeing temperatures in the low 80s by the end of next week.

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

The Ten Most Tornado-Prone Counties in America

When it comes to the topic of tornadoes, Oklahoma is universally known around the world for producing some of the biggest, including the last F6 ever measured... but it'd probably surprise most Okies that the Sooner State doesn't even crack the top five of the most tornado-prone counties in America.
