The happy, humble medium sized metropolis of South Park will be facing a pandemic of truly epic and hilarious proportions. The all new South Park "Pandemic Special" will air Wednesday, September 30th 2020 (09-30-20) at 7:00pm CST on Comedy Central.

We’ve seen The Simpsons and Robot Chicken team up for a couch gag once before, but never to take aim at South Park, or the California Raisins for that matter. And yet, both end up facing Homer’s wrath in a new couch gag from Sunday’s latest, featuring Robot Chicken co-creator Seth Green.

Whether or not the South Park brand of satire had lost any steam in Season 20, the most recent run of episodes hit a (figurative) wall when the 2016 Election swung against the result they’d written for. Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have a few months to re-energize, but now hint they’ll skew less topical in Season 21, saying “what was actually happening was way funnier than anything we could come up with.”

Perhaps the only South Park trivia cited so often as its six-day turnaround might be the one time creators exceeded it, owing to a power outage at South Park Studios. As it turns out, last week’s 20th anniversary premiere very nearly added another footnote to the record, as malfunctioning audio delayed “Member Berries” right up to an hour before showtime.

The famed six-day turnaround of South Park historically allows the 20 year-old animated comedy a chance to weigh in on the most topical of headlines, though in the case of fall 2016, there’s plenty of options. These days, it'd take at least two years to watch only only one season's worth of #PeakTV, a quarter of which won't even be around a second year.
