The 2017 Newport Folk Festival brought three days of Americana, alt-country and (obviously) folk music to Newport, R.I., on the final weekend of July (July 28-30). While Sunday, the fest's final day, concluded with a set by John Prine that featured appearances from, among others, the completely unexpected Roger Waters, all three days featured stellar music from newcomers and well-known names alike.

On Saturday, The Boot favorites Nikki Lane, the Avett Brothers and the Drive-By Truckers were among those who took the stage at Fort Adams State Park. The Truckers' Mike Cooley addressed the venue itself during his band's set, noting, "Playing some of these songs in an actual fort feels strangely appropriate."

Also onstage on Saturday were Robert Ellis, Billy Bragg and Joe Henry, Angel Olsen, sister trio Joseph and more. Readers can flip through the photo gallery above to see some shots from Day 2 of the 2017 Newport Folk Festival.
